MATHEMATICS IS NOT A SCIENCE

Creating a scientific revolution involves throwing out a spate of new ideals into the arena that includes – new guiding principles to use, new observations offered, revised or new conclusions stated, new laws realized, and explicit clarity for professional standards.

The first blog from 2010 that I wrote,  The Term Universe is Ambiguous & should be Scientifically Redefined, suggested 4 different classifications useful for scrutiny and critical analysis to determine the quality of the description and workings for the universe.   The 4th classification, The Mathematical Proposed Universe was, “This universe is purely exploratory mathematics; such as string theory, some aspects of quantum mechanics, and others.”

Let’s talk of clarity to determine what function mathematics provides in cosmology.

George Hrabovsky of MAST explains with words that provide clarity when he said, “Mathematics is not a science” in The Nature of Mathematics and Science in, Introduction to Physics, lesson 2: Measurement – which in 2011 was located in the ex-non-profit Society for Amateur Scientist website.    He also said, “In mathematics you must either assume something is true, or prove it to be true before continuing.”

The ability to mathematically calculate a hypothesis does not make it automatically true – that is why it should be rightfully called a “Mathematical Proposed Universe”.   In science a hypothesis is supported by measurable data and observations before it can be the bases of a recognized theory.

Mathematics is for making measurements and confirming observations – which makes it a tool of science but it is not science.

Making mathematical proposals should not be considered as science and falls in the same league as the 3rd classification I suggested, The Speculative Universe.
